I was born and raised in South Florida, and quickly decided when my husband interviewed for jobs out of state that there was no way we could leave Florida - who wants to shovel snow and freeze all winter anyway? Simply put, South Florida was a little too "crazy" for me, not to mention, it was getting extremely expensive and overcrowded. I jokingly called it "little New York" when I lived there. Tampa Bay is more my speed - while it is busy here too, in the communities of Riverview, Brandon, Apollo Beach and the like - you can have a lot more house, and a lot more land (for a lot less money than other parts of Florida) - and drive maybe 15-20 minutes to downtown but still feel like you live more in the suburbs, or even in the country if you like. Tampa is a tropical climate in the continental United States with some of the best sunsets and beaches in the world. There is an enormous amount of wealth living here among us which presents many opportunities for business people who want to relocate here.
Mortgage interest rates in Tampa Bay are as low as they have been in years. In the eastern communities of Riverview, Brandon, Apollo Beach and the like, it's still possible to build a brand new home or buy a resale for a lot less than you'd think. However this trend will not last forever, and interest rates will begin to rise again, as these things always go in cycles.
